I really feel like as long as we can keep them running, these cars should be run. Vintage racing is the right balance between risk vs. true capability. It allows everyone to enjoy the cars they were meant to be enjoyed. I’ve been lucky enough to be at the last couple of Rennsport Reunions and Monterey Historics. I’ve gotten to see the 917 up as close as I dare. There is nothing that compares to see it come up over turn 1 and hit the downshifts into turn 2. It is what gets people excited about motorsport and engineering, that is why it is so important to keep them running. And god bless the super rich guys who do it with bunches of spectators instead of on private days.

Awesome story that raises some great philosophical questions about the value of objects and how they can get too valuable to be used in the way that made them valuable in the first place. When does it get too valuable to be taken on the track? When does it get too valuable to even start the engine and when we hit that point is it even a car or just a piece automotive art?
